Note: Non-Residential E-Waste
For donating and/or recycling your surplus equipment, please send us a list of all the items (include make, model, & serial number)… as there are recycling fees for equipment not useful to our program (see sections below).
You may fax this list to our office @ 988-1799, or email it to the Technical Manager (cfsl@mts.net). Please call 988-1792 for any further info and/or details.
Please have this consent form signed and faxed prior to dropping off your equipment or it will not be accepted.
Thank-you for your continued support.
Donating
By donating your equipment to Computers for Schools (CFS) you would be:
- Turning your surplus equipment from an environmental liability into a valuable resource for schools, libraries, community access programs, and other non-profit organizations.
- Providing Manitoban’s with greater access to information technology (IT) to develop their skills.
- Providing a practical, hands-on training ground for students and others to gain valuable IT work experience at our workshop.
We will accept any and all equipment that meets our minimum standards and that are in working condition (not physically damaged and/or any discolouration) - check chart below. Our minimum standards are based on what is useable in schools, and other organizations. As a continuous effort for security, CFS ensures that all hard drives are removed from the computers and are wiped of all information.
Tax receipts may be issued for computers (Duo-Core CPU speed or better) and for laptops (2.0GHz CPU speed or better) which are complete and working. If you would like a tax receipt, please request one when you contact our office to make arrangements for drop-off/pick-up.

Drop-off/Pick-up
We have limited pick-up services for equipment. We depend solely on the MTS volunteers and their availability.
If you would like to drop-off or have your equipment picked-up, please contact (204) 988-1796 to make the proper arrangements.
Security
Although it is our policy to wipe all drives donated, we strongly suggest that the person/company ensure wiping is done for their own security prior to donation. We properly wipe all drives according to national standards and if a drive does fail the wiping process, then we remove the circuit board and drill a hole through it (ensuring that we get all cylinders).
Repairs
CFS accepts returns of broken or malfunctioning equipment. Returned items will be repaired and/or recycled.
We are unable to retrieve any data that may be resident on the hard drive and will make no efforts to do so. Any computers with software related problems will have their hard drives wiped. To prevent loss of data please ensure your files and folders are backed up.
Note: While CFS undertakes to provide functioning equipment any subsequent liabilities or repairs are the sole responsibility of the recipient. |
